The Phillies get a well earned rest…

The New York Yankees are the new World Series Champions, after defeating the Philadelphia Phillies in 6 games. It’s not easy to win the World Series, and is a great accomplishment each time. For that I give a congratulatory nod to the Yankees.

The Phillies will get a well deserved rest and return in 2010 with all the other teams, with their eye on the ultimate goal once more. During this time we will be able to speculate on who will be back, who will move on, and who will just simply be released.

It would be too easy to write about the money the Yankees spent to achieve the prize, or to speculate on the tax burden residents will be facing to pay for the new stadium. I could also stoop to the levels of the NY Post and make a half-hearted, but tackey attempt at poking fun at players, especially since a DH won the MVP award, but at this point I will refrain from drawing anymore attention to a group of individuals who believe the world revolves around them and that they are the largest sports franchise in the world, of which the majority probably didn’t even know where Philadelphia was until this past week or that any other sport even exists.

I am at peace with all this, knowing that next year things will be different. So during the off season I will as often as possible write about things that have no relevance to anything whatsoever, but will, I am sure from time to time irritate the sh!t out of people.

Well, the stress is over for another year. =) But it was a delicious sort of stress, wasn’t it? It was.

By the way, you’re no longer an outsider looking in. You’re definitely one of us. British accent and all.

It’s so hard for a team to repeat and yet the Phillies almost got there. A lot to be proud of for them. How about a re-match next year?

Carol – I could take that type of stress all year long….:-)..thanks…
Jane – 2010 Phillies vs Yankees… I could live with that…it would probably would put both teams at the top of the most hated list…Oh wait they’re already there….:-)

Peter, you better keep writing! For some reason lots of MLBloggers bail after the season and never come back. Don’t be one of them. We like having you around and we like reading what you have to say. By the way, the Phillies are going to tailspin next year. The Braves will be the toast of the East again. You heard it here first 😉

Peter – I’m very much looking forward to you irritating the sh!t out of people in the offseason! And don’t listen to Jeff…it’s the Natinals who will take the East by storm.

Peter, you’re very gracious, and that’s more on the rare side of things from all the nasty hater comments i’ve been reading on other blogs lately. the Phillies played exceptionally well (i tell people what a scary, ferocious team the Phillies are). and unlike what Jane mentioned, i DON’T want the Yankees to meet the Phillies next year because of how freaky-scary the Phillies are. you and other Phillies fans have much much to be proud of this year

Good job to your guys, Peter. They sure put up a hell of a fight. Chase Utley? Jayson Werth? I bet those are a couple of guys you hope to keep around for a while. They’d certainly make a difference on any team. But hey, look at it this way, the Phillies are now two-time defending National League Champions. That’s not something to forget about! Nice job this season, Peter. I’m already looking forward to the next one!
