MLB – Weird and Wonderful

things, not because of umpiring screw-ups or because players tend to get a holier
than thou attitude and do something really really dumb, but just because of the
pure mathematics of baseball.
Last night at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia, was another
night where a sell out crowd got to see history in the making….
….Ryan Howard hit his 30th home run of the season and became
the first Philadelphia Phillies player to successfully achieve 5 consecutive
seasons with 30 HR’s and 100 RBI’s.
Things that make you say ‘Really’ in a sarcastic
manner –
The AL East has had more changes to the division lead than any
other division this year
The AL Central has all teams at or below .500 eliminated.
The AL West has only 1 team above .500
The NL West has 3 teams above .500 contending for the division
title
The NL Central has 3 of the 5 worst teams in the National League
The NL East has mathematics….
….the Mets season is officially over, yet right behind them in
the standing the Marlins cling to, well nothing really, but it gives the
Marlins this weekend before the last remaining dozen or so fans stop going to
the stadium and with the sCrUBs in town chances are no ones going to the stadium
anyway.
Peter: Yeah…this AL East is a little bit stressful to say the least. The Rangers are a good team and all, but come on: their division is so crappy. I think the Orioles could win in that division….maybe

Congrats to Ryan Howard. Those are impressive stats!

Virginia – there are just some divisions that make it so easy to win in…

I love the quirky stuff about baseball! There are a lot of fun numbers out there. Unfortunately, my team blew one of the best things about the NL West. Up until about 2 weeks ago, it was the only division that consistently had 4 teams over .500 for most of the season. Then we took a dive. š¦

There’s nothing worse than having mathematics in your division. LOL.

That sentence, “…the Mets season is officially over” makes me all warm and fuzzy inside ;o)

Ryan Howard has 30 HR? That’s great considering he missed some games but he also has 144 strikeouts. Adrian Gonzalez has 29 HRs, 106 Ks, has played in 14 more games than Howard, and is making about 14 million less. And is also hitting 25 points higher. I doubt our Pads will go anywhere if they get to the playoffs though. AGon has very little protection in this lineup. And if they face the Phillies they are likely done since the Phillies do own them.
martinezforever – AGon has done well this year again, I think this is his 4th straight with around 30/100 give or take a few HR and RBI’s… Like the East the West can come down to the final 3 days with the Giants and Padres going at it… who know the Braves may tank this week and give the West the Wild card too..
