Phillies take Game 1 at Yankee Stadium
Posted: October 28, 2009 Filed under: Dailies | Tags: Babe Ruth, Burnett, Cliff Lee, game 1, Martinez, phillies, World Series, Yankees 15 CommentsThis World Series has been given a few diferent names, as in every year the media look for catchy phrases to brand the series.
The Liberty Series – in reference to the Statue and the Bell
The Amtrak Series – in reference to the short train ride
I even heard it called the I-95 Shoot Out due to the quick Interstate drive
Whatever you want to call it, tonight it was the domination of Cliff Lee and the power of Chase Utley.
As excited as I am at the victory, I am still well aware that it is only game 1 and there is lots of baseball left to play, but it is a win on the road which in reality removes the homefield advantge of the Yankees.
With Pedro Martinez scheduled to pitch game 2 against AJ Burnett, you can be sure the fun is just begining.
Just in case any Yankee fans actually decide to read this a little reminder the score was Phillies 6 Yankees 1
Chase Utley reached base in his 26th consecutive post season game producing a new MLB record and he also joined Babe Ruth as the only 2 left handed hitters to hit 2 home runs off of left handed pitching in a World Series Game.
and tomorrow…
‘it will be who it will be’
That was one fun game, that’s for sure. No matter who wins game two, the next three are at Philly so the Phillies did the objective and took at least one of the two games. What a fun series this is turning out to be.

WAS LAST NIGHT FUN OR WHAT?????? =)
Oh…..I could never have imagined such a game, and I’ve got a danged good imagination. =)
Cliff Lee was beyond amazing, and how about the rest of the team? Everything was percolating. Everything was…..practically perfect.
I’m so looking forward to tonight’s game. I’m so wanting Pedro to do well. I figure last night’s Lee performance will spur him on. I think he’ll try to do as well.
Today is going to be a long day. =) I cannot wait for the game!

Peter: Ugh…last night was not fun for me….it was frustrating…homefield is gone now…..I’m nervous….Lee beasted, I’ll give him credit….my Yankees need to start hitting…and I pray that tonight A.J. can control himself….
You won game 1. Good job….ugh…I feel sick saying this….

I need to blog when I get home. I can’t do it now, I’m in Spanish class π
Congrats on a great game by Lee. No doubt about it, he was Philthy. (Did I really just write that? LOL.) We’ll get you tonight or else you’ll hear me screaming from all the way in CA.

Jane said it.. he was Philthy. Wow. What a performance.. and really, that’s what it was. He looked like a performer. Cool to hear him say in the post game interview that he has “never been nervous in the pros”. Kids.. take a hint. : )

I am kind of feeling the “Amtrak Series” myself. But it could be worse, it could be the “Cheesy” Series with the cheesesteaks and the cheesecakes flowing in the clubhouses. or the C&C versus CC series where Chase and Cliff might be the answer to beating the CC magic.
Whatever happens, you can be sure it is going to be fought also in the stands. Not aying either team is going to fight, but the words, phrases and the quips thrown out by fans will be the best things heard this series.

Matt – Fun it was, but only if your not a Yankee fan
Jenn – Awesome it was, but even that seems a little of an understatement….:-)
Carol – Your right today was a long day that never seems to end…
Virginia – now there’s no need to make yourself sick… AJ I am sure will at least try and control himself…
Jane – I thought I heard you scream last night, but I think that was just the echo of my celebrations…
Buz – he definately performed last night his two little nonchalant catches were proof of that
RR – the fans I think will be more on display Sunday when the NY Giants are in Philadelphia as well as the Yankees…
Jessica – Thanks for stopping by and I hope some fun goes the Yankees way tonight, but the end fun is all Phillies…fingers crossed, AJ and Pedro anything could happen…:-)

It’s hard to get much better than that with that kind of pitching performance in the postseason. Plus, he looked bored shutting down the most-scoring team in baseball!

Yep! The fun IS just beginning… Phillies take the lead! (note: this comment may or may not be moot by the time you read it. That’s just how I roll.)

Pedro looked good tonight despite the elements. things will get interesting in Philly.

The Phillies have looked pretty awesome this postseason. I wish the Dodgers could have signed Cliff Lee.

I just wish I could clone Cliff Lee. Not that Pedro was bad, he just wasn’t as good as Burnett. Cole, on the other hand, instills no confidence in me this year. Maybe Cliff can give him some pointers on this off-day.
