N. L. West Crystal Ball…

NLwestcrystalball.jpg

The National League West is probably the hardest of the divisions to predict a winner and loser, not because the teams are so good, more because the teams are more evenly matched than the other divisions or in technical terms ‘more sucky’. So with this in mind, the division can change on the win or loss of a couple of key games or even players hitting the DL, or hitting something other than a baseball this year.

The San Diego Padres fans, like most in this division don’t need to spend much this year, but….

petcopark.jpg…should enjoy what they have, while they’ve got
it. Who knows how long PetCo Park will actually be PetCo Park, and lets
face it there is not much going to happen here over the next few years,
with Jeff Moorad needing another $145 million in 4 years to secure
ownership, he and his financing buddies will have essentially spent $290
million to own a $200 million debt that has almost no chance of winning
anything anytime soon.

The San Francisco Giants fans, should also enjoy more time at home this
year and do nothing but…

sanfran.jpg…try and enjoy the sounds and sights of your town and be thankful that Alcatraz is no longer operational, otherwise that’s where you’d have to go to watch games, because this year it’s going to seem like the Giants players and organization are nothing more than criminals taking your money for no return, the biggest disappointment for these fans will be the lack-luster performance of their star freak, Lincecum.

The Arizona Diamondbacks fans, should like so many others…

grandcanyon-2.jpg

…stay close to home, go visit the Grand Canyon if you haven’t already, because by the end of the season it’ll feel like the D’Backs have left a huge gaping hole in your life with the almost but not quite season.

The Los Angeles Dodgers fans, are going to have to spend the most in this division and trust me when I say you’ll need to find the perfect…

therapistcartoon.jpg
…therapist. The reasons will become many and varied as the season progresses, but at the start of the season you are going to need a therapist, to get past the waring parents of the Dodgers as they go through a bitter divorce knowing the only ones to suffer are the kids or in this case the fans, then the fact that knowing you have another shot at the post season, by way of the ‘Wild Card’ spot, so you can be counseled for what can only be described as ‘PhilliePhobia’, the undying need to lose to the Phillies in post season play, and of course the Manny virus will hit this year and fans will need therapy to maintain there undying love for a guy that is trying to get his bobble-head night changed to a male version of Raggedy Ann dolls…

The Colorado Rockies fans, need to take lots of pictures so they can…

mountains.jpg

…enjoy their trip to the top of the (Rocky) NL West Mountain this year, because the trip on this rocky road to the top of the division will result in a long hard fall early in post season play.

any sarcasm is not meant to offend,
unless it does, then consider the possibilities of more during the
season.

Other News:
A-Rod once again managed to avoid the face to face with the FBI, by ‘mutual’ agreement, yeah okay that’s about as believable as that other New York teams Reyes having a magical quick recovery from the thyroid imbalance or did that HGH just get flushed from his system.

You must be kidding me, You say the NL West is “sucky”…Chew on this the NL East was 395-415 last year. The NL West was 420-400. Along with that the Phillies get guaranteed wins…They get to play the Nats 18 times a year. The Dodgers finished 2 games ahead of the Phillies and the Rockies finished 1 game back. Looking at how the Rocks main guys are panning out in pre-season, they are looking like the clear cut favorite. With a rotation last year that finished with all 5 guys with 10 wins+. Carlos Gonzalez is coming into his own. Jimenez will be a canadate for the Cy Young and Tulo might earn some votes in the MVP race. Dont be surprised when the Rockies represent the whole National League come World Series time

This drivel makes me really wish we could return to fully staffed newspapers with actual baseball writers. The material here is stupid and largely unintelligible. Someone please save us. I will not return here.

mlbalaska – I think there’s a website somewhere in the vast internets that you can find such a thing, but just because they get paid to write doesn’t make them right… cough cough ESPN anyway you wont see this cause your never coming back, oh well, life goes on and the NL West will still be ‘sucky’

This is an idiotic article. I wish the NL West could play the Nationals 18-19 times a year. The Mets aren’t all that great, and neither are the Braves. Other than the Phillies, the NL East is just ok.

I think the Rockies and Giants could easily compete with the rest of the league, and do not, and yes Im saying this, do not push the Padres aside. Their new style of small ball is going to piss off a lot of pitchers/catchers. They have over 40 SBs this spring already and they have a solid bullpen again. Plus, their #4 and 5 starters are going to be pretty solid.

    • devilabrit says:

dvmin98 – I thought a baseball had to be a regulation size, or are the Padres gonna play with a golf ball at PetCo park. Doesn’t matter still means the NL West is ‘sucky’

Yours are the stupidest entries I have ever read, do everyone a favor and stop writing.

Wow, bunch of haters here. How freaking rude. I really enjoy reading your blog and please keep writing while ignoring these trolls. This is your blog and you have the right to write your thoughts and opinions. Obviously I have to go for the Padres and I do think we have a chance to clinch NL west. We have talented young players with great vetran players. Some of them won World Series rings like David Eckstein, Matt Stairs and recently, Jerry Hairston. I really don’t care if anyone calls us a “sucky” team. The one thing that’s going to surprise many is that we don’t back down from any team. http://hyunyoung.mlblogs.com

    • devilabrit says:

Hyun – I appreciate the nice words, the West will be tight this year which is why I think it will be kind of sucky, there won’t be a chance within the division for a really bad team to beat up on the really good one, and this division could be anyones.

didnt expect a firestorm like this. good analysis. these teams are good. but they always underachieve. i think the didgers take it, but it will be close. the d-backs will give a better effort than last year and the giants are alwasy competitive with their talent

  8. thepitchersduel says:

Damn Pete! You did one hell of a job firing up the NL West faithful. The Phillies fan in me has to wonder if their all Dodger fans mad about losing to us two years in a row. I appreciate your entries for sure. It’s a shame that some are so disconnected from society. Not to mention, who cares if you insult someone’s division? If anyone wants to take shots are are division why would I care?

    • devilabrit says:

tpd – I actually thought they were mostly Rockies fans, all that thin air maybe… since most of the Dodgers fans I know have a sense of humor and normally give as good as they get, but who knows, as they say ‘bad press is better than no press’… 🙂

  9. crzblue2 says:

Well Peter, this Dodger Fan enjoys your blog and these crystal ball predictions! Yes Dodgers got to work on making themselves “Phillie Proof” It can be done! And the NL Wild card will come out of the stronger NL division which is the NL West so it will be a repeat of the Rockies getting the WC and the Dodgers taking the division.

You stopped my interest when you wrote “more sucky” is a technical term. Is that something like you being “more stupider”? Lastly, you don’t have to predict winners AND losers. Pick the winner, commonsense dictates that the rest are “technically” losers….just like you.
    GO GIANTS!!

  11. redstatebluestate says:

Wow, Peter, we’re agreeing quite a lot so far this preseason… great minds think alike so they say… so I”m waiting for you to pick the Cardinals to beat the Phils for the NL title.

    Peter,
“Emma – It’s definitely going to be a close division and could go either way or will that be Ethier’s way… :-)”

LOL! Ethier way we’ll take the division and take on the Phillies!
