Just Stupid ….

– PhilliesOutside –

What a weekend already, it’s almost the end of the month, July will be here
in the next few days and Independence Day celebrations will be upon next
weekend. All that to come and we still have this weekend to finish, the staring
role being out in Los Angeles and the headline hungry A-Rod, I am sure the media
make more of it than is there, I am sure we all add to the snowball effect of
hyping up a situation when it really is no big deal. It is difficult to look the
other way when it involves A-Rod, because lets face it, it’s probably not so
innocent, in fact it’s probably far from innocent.

Sports Illustrated,
got suckered like so many, way back in 2004 hailing A-Rod as the greatest player
in baseball, stating things about how Jeter should move to 2nd and let the superior
player take up at Short Stop, had someone then said, well it’s A-Roid not A-Rod,
they would have said you had sour grapes, you were a Rangers fan or even a
die-hard Jeterholic, the chances of agreeing with you were as slim as A-Rod
telling the truth to Katie Couric when she asked him point blank if he used any
PED’s, of course he said no, they all do.

He can give it but he can’t take it, ask Ashton Kutcher who punk’d him, ask
Dallas Braden who he dished it out too and finally ask his ex-wife who showed
her thought via a t-shirt at a ballgame. Now it’s Joe Torre’s turn, who A-Rod once
said he preferred playing under Joe than the Rangers organization chose to
ignore Joe at Dodgers stadium this weekend, when it was obvious others wanted to
say hi to Joe, A-Rod was uncomfortable when he got within 10 feet….

…..I didn’t set out to bash A-Rod, it just snow-balled out of
control, it’s just that A-Rod does so much and then denies everything, I am sure even when
he is in his 70’s he will still be saying “I’m young and stupid”
as someone I am sure has already pointed out, getting 1 out of 2 right is okay,
and trust me your not young anymore, and besides you lost that claim when you
chose to father children, I am sure you probably tried to tell everyone, you
didn’t know what you were doing then, the only thing left right now is to see who’ll claim the first use of
A-Fraud and A-Roid.

For those that have been following the FIFA World Cup, you must
have heard by now that the USA is a Ghana from the tourny, beaten by the little
country in Western Africa, a country which is younger than the USA, but one
where the kids play football barefoot from about 3 years old. I have to say I
have found out since being here that the knowledge of international geography in
the United States is somewhat appalling, so here is a map of the world with the
USA and Ghana indicated….

….this is the beauty of the FIFA World Cup, it doesn’t matter
how big you are or how much money you have, it’s a game of skill and talent that
comes about from practice. I am sure some pundits will tell you how the USA was
robbed and should be going through to play Uruguay, but I am here to say, the
USA was lucky to even go to extra time, Donovan almost missed the penalty kick,
which after the USA coach had made a big thing in the press of players that fall
down, there was a lot of it going on from the USA team during the 2nd half of
this game, especially near and in the penalty area. All in all Ghana out played
the USA and deserved the win, congrats to them.

England met with Germany, which is probably the biggest rivalry
between 2 countries in this sport, the young German players showed poise and
maturity, which had been promoted as being the advantage England should have
enjoyed. Germany advances to the next round and will meet the winner of the
Argentina v Mexico game later today. The biggest disappointment of this World
Cup was the over hyped Wayne Rooney who was a total non-issue regardless of who
England played. There wil be those who would say that if the goal England scored
had been allowed then they would not have left the defense so wide open as they
threw caution to the wind to try and win, that unfortunate is the name of the
game and crying won’t change the result, demanding rules change to accommodate
your teams needs is not how sports should be played. The England team will have
to endure the return home and suffer the full weight of the media,
Germany get to advance, well done to them.

The Phillies were on the road in Philadelphia, weird, road grays
at home, even the broadcasters changed locations, yet what of the dug out and
bull pen, why didn’t they change places, one of the mysteries we have to live
with like the rest of the G20 summit. Still not sure why all those countries
spend all that money to tell each other how sucky the world’s finances are
today.

In Philadelphia, we had a weekend that saw….

…. Halladay take game 1 and Moyer take game 3, which put Moyer
over 4,000 innings pitched and the pitcher with the most homers hit off him, I
guess we’re going to see something every time he pitches now, so good and bad
records will be set, since he has pitched in 4 decades and is into his 25th year
in the majors.

It’s the end of inter league play as the Phillies head for a 1
week road trip closing June out in Cinci and opening July in Pittsburgh. I now
get a week of calling MLBTV to tell them I’m not in the blackout area for these
2 clubs, oh joy.

Moyer Gets Win 260, Phillies take series in Atlanta

philliesoutside 41

Phillies take 2 of 3 from Braves in Atlanta, Jamie Moyer gets win number 260
for his
career, (not the season), he is now 2-1 on the season. Before this season
began, most were raving about the Braves pitching, and rightly so, they have
some excellent pitching, but those raving on the Braves were saying how bad the
Phillies pitching really was and really had it not been for 2 errors in last
nights game by Utley, 1 receiving the ball from Castro and the other throwing to
Howard, the Phillies starting pitching would have shut the Braves out, the 1st
game the bull pen gave up all the runs in the 9th and 10th innings, game 2
Braves got no runs and last night, they scored 2 unearned runs on the errors and
then 1 more in the 7th off Chad Durbin.

The Phillies aren’t the only team with the pitching rising to unexpected
levels this early in
the season, seems the Oakland A’s managed to confuse the Yankees yesterday, long
enough to get the win and it also seems as though they urked A-Rod enough to
walk across the mound on his way from 3rd to 1st in the 6th inning. Dallas
Braden unleashed a tirade of verbal disdain on A-Rod for his actions, not only
at the end of the inning, but after the game with the press too, I think he
just wanted to make a point that he wouldn’t be bullied by a member of the ‘Evil
Empire’, A-Rod acted dumb(founded) like he’d been accused of taking PED’s or
something, and then proceeded to remark on how long Braden has been in the bigs
and how many wins he has to his credit. Unanswered questions that should be
answered for us to really understand who is acting like a spoilt bratty rich kid
and who is acting like a baby:

1 – Is there an unwritten rule?

2 – Would A-Rod have crossed the mound with say Brett Myers on it?

3 – Would a big deal of been made of this if it had been a rookie from
Washington or Pittsburgh
or Cleveland instead of A-Rod?

4 – Does anyone outside of Oakland care?

Other pitchers who I think warrant a mention for being better than people
thought they would be is Sheilds of the Tampa Bay Rays, who got his 2nd win
yesterday in another display of demolition in Chicago as the Rays bashed in
another double digit score against the team that may need a presidential pardon
to escape the backlash of its fans come the end of the season.

N. L. West Crystal Ball…

NLwestcrystalball.jpg

The National League West is probably the hardest of the divisions to predict a winner and loser, not because the teams are so good, more because the teams are more evenly matched than the other divisions or in technical terms ‘more sucky’. So with this in mind, the division can change on the win or loss of a couple of key games or even players hitting the DL, or hitting something other than a baseball this year.

The San Diego Padres fans, like most in this division don’t need to spend much this year, but….

petcopark.jpg…should enjoy what they have, while they’ve got
it. Who knows how long PetCo Park will actually be PetCo Park, and lets
face it there is not much going to happen here over the next few years,
with Jeff Moorad needing another $145 million in 4 years to secure
ownership, he and his financing buddies will have essentially spent $290
million to own a $200 million debt that has almost no chance of winning
anything anytime soon.

The San Francisco Giants fans, should also enjoy more time at home this
year and do nothing but…

sanfran.jpg…try and enjoy the sounds and sights of your town and be thankful that Alcatraz is no longer operational, otherwise that’s where you’d have to go to watch games, because this year it’s going to seem like the Giants players and organization are nothing more than criminals taking your money for no return, the biggest disappointment for these fans will be the lack-luster performance of their star freak, Lincecum.

The Arizona Diamondbacks fans, should like so many others…

grandcanyon-2.jpg

…stay close to home, go visit the Grand Canyon if you haven’t already, because by the end of the season it’ll feel like the D’Backs have left a huge gaping hole in your life with the almost but not quite season.

The Los Angeles Dodgers fans, are going to have to spend the most in this division and trust me when I say you’ll need to find the perfect…

therapistcartoon.jpg
…therapist. The reasons will become many and varied as the season progresses, but at the start of the season you are going to need a therapist, to get past the waring parents of the Dodgers as they go through a bitter divorce knowing the only ones to suffer are the kids or in this case the fans, then the fact that knowing you have another shot at the post season, by way of the ‘Wild Card’ spot, so you can be counseled for what can only be described as ‘PhilliePhobia’, the undying need to lose to the Phillies in post season play, and of course the Manny virus will hit this year and fans will need therapy to maintain there undying love for a guy that is trying to get his bobble-head night changed to a male version of Raggedy Ann dolls…

The Colorado Rockies fans, need to take lots of pictures so they can…

mountains.jpg

…enjoy their trip to the top of the (Rocky) NL West Mountain this year, because the trip on this rocky road to the top of the division will result in a long hard fall early in post season play.

any sarcasm is not meant to offend,
unless it does, then consider the possibilities of more during the
season.

Other News:
A-Rod once again managed to avoid the face to face with the FBI, by ‘mutual’ agreement, yeah okay that’s about as believable as that other New York teams Reyes having a magical quick recovery from the thyroid imbalance or did that HGH just get flushed from his system.

copyrights and patents are the property of their respective owners.

The A-Rod Cloud….

The now famed Doctor Galea, seemed to feel it was acceptable to lay claims to assisting A-Rod with an inflamed hip following his surgery last year and denies that he prescribed or administered any HGH, PED, Steroid or any other illegal narcotic banned for use by MLB players to A-Rod. True or False, at this point it doesn’t matter, the fact that he has admitted having medical interaction with A-Rod should seriously damage A-Rods future.

WHY?

No it’s not because he’s a member of the ‘Evil Empire‘ or that miraculously he managed to start hitting the ball better at the end of the year. Simply it’s because, one lie generates another lie and escalates to a point where it’s very difficult for anyone to determine where the lies end.

What Lie? or Which Lie?

Back in
December the Times reported that A-Rod’s representatives denied A-Rod had any dealings with Doctor Galea. It seems the team had suspicions, because they found it necessary to ask the question.

Does A-Rod have any defense, for this he could just continue to flat out deny he had any dealing with the Doctor, but if that is a lie, it will just generate more lies to cover up the first and you know sooner or later the media will get proof of some kind.

The surgeon who operated on A-Rods hip, Marc Philippon, denies having been aware of any hip problems after A-Rod left Colorado a month after the operation and again when he was cleared to play ball.

I am just curious, does anyone watch the games that the players play in, or do they just stand around sucking up the money, it was plain to everyone who actually watched any Yankees games down the stretch that A-Rod had some discomforted as this image shows from a game in August….

arodhip.jpg

…..so there you have it, if overpaid Doctors of sports teams just watch the players now and then maybe they would know more.

This in no way can excuse A-Rod, firstly for not telling anyone that he was having problems, or if he did, not clearing it with the team before seeing a non-authorized Doctor.

More claims came in that he has at least once canceled his interview with the FBI, although now he has had a chance to review what the Doctor said about him I feel sure A-Rod will make a point to get his interview out of the way.

The problem is and will always be that we will never truly know for sure, since the MLB doesn’t test for HGH, it just forbids it’s use. So whether the mighty ‘Evil Empire’ decide to make an example of A-Rod or sweep it under the carpet one thing is for sure that A-Rod will always be surrounded by that undeniable CLOUD of CONTROVERSY and MYSTERY.

Yankees Take Game 2…

As much as it pains me to write the fact that the Yankees won 3-1, it happened therefore I must…

Game 2 however did manage to show the shortcomings of the umpires, a bad call going against the Yankees and then one against the Phillies. Does this balance it out, NO, because you never know how many runs, if any, would have been scored had the umpires got it right.

The only other officiating that was less than perfect was the balls and strikes, it seemed that on occasion the strike zone had a tendency to be elastic, as a Phillie fan this obviously appeared to favor the Yankees more than the Phillies.

As this post season has been filled with more errors by umpires than players, I have grown to accept the fact that games are going to be decided by the call of an umpire, good or bad.

This wasn’t the biggest problem for me during game 2, it was the Fox commentators, who seemed to become instant Yankee fans as soon as they scored the first run to tie the game, after this they just became very irritating, especially when making references and then getting players names wrong, but I guess I still have some control, which is why they made the mute button.

Problems aside, I am sure some think the pre-game showing of Jay-Z and Alicia Keys was terrific….

jeter.jpg

I would love to know what Jeter was thinking here while he watched the performance, just maybe he was thinking the same thing I was…

aliciaK.jpg

the hooker boots were not very becoming and just maybe she has a little too much junk in her trunk

but this still wasn’t what caught my attention during the first 2 games, it was non other than A-ROD…

arod.jpg

during the first 2 series of the Yankees post season he gave everyone hope that his post season inefficiencies where behind him and was A-ROID in their offence, the strength and power…. but since the World Series began he has become nothing more than A-VOID in their offence, an empty space, he has gone 0-8 with 6 strike outs.

So now we have to sit back and wait for game 3 to start tomorrow (Saturday) night at CBP, who will be the winner is on everyone’s mind….

‘it will be, who it will be’

Alumni Weekend, Kalas Induction, Fish sink Phils…

It was the start of Alumni weekend at CBP, and before tonight’s game they inducted Harry Kalas onto the Phillies Wall of Fame. The activities delayed the start of tonight’s game, but it was all well worth it. A number of the Phillies Alumni were in attendance and were surprised by Harry’s voice being the one to introduce them to the waiting fans.

Yes there was a game tonight, the Phillies and the Fish, went at it in a 3 game series opener, for the Phillies it was Joe Blanton on the mound and he was squaring off against the Marlins right hander Nolasco. This in my mind (which is a little warped and sometimes x-rated) should have been a chance for Blanton to get his 8th win on the year and prove his recent solid performances will continue on through the rest on the season. (sigh) Blanton showed up to pitch, which is always a good sign, and as all good pitchers in a starting rotation do, from time to time, he had a little bit of a shaky start, but settled in and pitched well through 6 2/3 innings, the problem was the Phillies defense and offense decided to take a night off.

The only player who really showed up to give 110% was Francisco, the new arrival from the Cleveland trade. Since Victorino was again suffering, this time from a slight quad strain, Francisco got a starting role. In an effort to get the defense fired up he threw a bullet in from the outfield to gun down a runner at the plate to end the top of the 7th inning, then his continuing efforts were trying to jump the offense into action he hit a 2 run home run to left field which landed in the flowers beds, in the bottom of the 7th inning. Unfortunately for Blanton, he was out of the game by this time, but it was still, too little too late, the Phillies could do little to support his efforts and they ended up losing 3-2.

One thing that, again in my mind, (see previous note about my mind), I found entertaining was the presence of one of my favorite Phillies players from seasons past. It took me a while to find this picture in my archives, and it was the only one that I had that showed the mullet hanging out of the cap. How times change.

Okay so he’s not on everyone’s list of Philadelphia’s finest players, he didn’t really carve anything specific into the Phillies history books, but for me he was and still is the type of character I like to see.

Scandal Brewing or was this just innocent:

The Yankees and the Red Sox go 14 shut out innings, then bottom 15th 1 on 2 out A-Rod at the plate….‘possibly’ deep in the depths of the new Yankee stadium the under paid supporters of A-Rod were discreetly turning all the AC fans to suction mode for the left field, bullpen area. A-Rod hits his home run then in an effort to prevent discovery he sends a electronic signal to the guys below to switch the AC fans back to normal,

how else do you explain the shortened celebration and anxious run toward the dugout while messing with something obviously hidden in his uniform… these questions need answers….
