Phillies Pheeling Blue against the Jays….

Well there was me thinking yesterday that
the guys were just swinging at everything and getting
themselves out…. my mistake, the umpires strike zone makes
them swing, since the zone seems to move about….
re-enforces my comments yesterday, the Phillies are being
squeezed by the umpires of late…. Hamels is normally very
relaxed and keeps his cool, no matter what, but tonight he
had had enough, dont blame him, okay so he was out of the
game when he was ejected, but he must have hit a nerve with
the umpire for him to eject a player that had just been
replaced in the game…. I should have known better than to
think the Phillies would get far play in Canada or anywhere
in the AL….

Phillies back on the road…

Good or bad they are on the road again, just sat and watched them take 1 out of 3 from the Rays. So they lost 2 of 3, but there are some interesting things that I have noticed in the last week or so, maybe it’s just cause I am a Phillies fan or maybe it’s just cause I am watching it on MLBTV, never the less it has become more noticeable, to me. Not many like to dig at the umpires and some will blame them for everything, I have started to see a trend of the opposition getting the favorable calls, no matter how clear they are to those wtaching the game from the sidelines or on the TV. There was Dobbs home run, should have been reviewed, what is the rule anyway, I thought if the manager requested it and it disputed a home run, it had to be reviewed, guess not….. Jimmy Rollins clearly safe at first base, called out.. WHAT!!!! how could he be out, again he’s out cause he’s in a Phillies uniform…. A whole host of balls and strikes have gone against Phillies pitchers and hitters respectively, regardless of what people may say, they have gone against the Phillies and played a major role in the win/loss record. Tonight was the final straw, which is why I found I had to comment, Durbin was out of the inning almost… again balls when they were strikes called…. then what the hell were they thinking to review the ground rule double…. it wasn’t a home run… didn’t matter that the runner may have scored… it WASN’T a home run… not reviewable… maybe the rules should be clarified or maybe my understanding is totally wrong… review it if it doesn’t help the Phillies maybe thats the rule…. okay attacked the umpires enough, maybe it will be different in Canada, yeah right… Swinging strikes, maybe someone should emphasize the basic rule, if the pitcher isn’t throwing strikes don’t swing…. I know it’s tougher being at the plate, but until recently everyone was hitting great, till interleague at home, then it’s like their swinging at everything that head towards the vacinaty of home plate. Whats done is done maybe Canada will start the upswing and get the team into the habit of winning series again….. GO PHILLIES….

Raul Ibanez in the news

Well it wasn’t what I expected, and for the first time I actually commented on the news story. I also felt i needed to say more and didn’t want to keep commenting on the news story, so here I am at my own Blog….. I have read the original blog at midwest sports fans website and the follow-up article he has written. He claims not to be mainstream media and offers grass roots sports reporting, okay, but isn’t there an element of reporting that requires some legitimate substance to the content of the report. He offers a half-hearted apology and goes on to quote, or link to other websites that reported this first, I use the word reported very loosely… since one site will not load, another is on personal blog chat on yahoo and the last website is dressed to look like a porn site with so many ad’s you actually have trouble finding any sort of information that’s posted on the site… so not very good sources even for a grass roots reporter. Now in his current Blog or grass roots news report, not sure if they constitute the same or not, but we’ll give him the benefit of the doubt, maybe, he explains why he wrote what he wrote, the thing I find hard to underestand is the repetative nature in which he continues to write on how there is no evidence to prove Raul is not taking anything…. correct me if I am wrong but, I always thought it was the other way round, that it has to be proven you are taking something to verify the claims, since when do we have to verify were not doing something. If there is evidence to prove something then okay, but don’t accuse and they say, well if your not prove it… that is just BS…… so according to the Inquirer Raul called him a 42 year old living in mothers basement, he claims to be 27.. hmmmm no evidence of that just his word… so back to my earlier thought do I give him the benefit of the doubt, I think not since he obviously isn’t giving Raul the benefit of the doubt. Just in case MidWest Sport Fan writer or JROD as he calls himself, reads my Blog. Nice picture of Raul on your blog/report, I trust it’s yours and you didn’t take it from someone elses website, cause that could be deemed as maybe illegal.. hmmmm did you or didn’t you I guess we’ll never know cause there’s no test for that is there…. I guess I may have made a point, but who the hell knows. GO PHILLIES……

Ryan Howard

Howard seems to be loosening up nicely. Now leading in homeruns, yes it is only preseason and as people keep saying nothing really counts, but he’s warming up and is looking as though he should start the season off in good shape at the plate. He looks confortable and confident and the slimmer, fitter Howard is heading towards April with an spring in his step. Predictions I think he will exceed 50 homers this year with relative ease, he may even go beyond 60, if teams continue to pitch to him as the season progresses. I think that is going to be the story of August and September, the lack of pitches Howard sees and if that is the case then he could receive a high number of intentional walks. Obviously that all depends on the hitters before and after him, if they have a average or high OBP anything could happen. So this is my first prediction, I will hopefully look back in September and see how good it was and watch Howard hit his and the Phillies way into the post season.

Spring Training

Spring training is under way and the Phillies players are enjoying themselves, it’s a time for blowing out the cobwebs, getting the baseball feeling back and loosening up the arms and legs. Then again for some of us it’s a time that says spring is upon us, the weather is turning the days into sun rather than snow, temperatures are heating up, away go the winter coats it’s almost sweatshirts and light coats and soon just good old t-shirts. Can’t wait for April… bring it on
