was the ‘O’ from H2O that took the mound on Friday night for the Phillies facing
off against the Reds in game 2 of this NLDS match up. The stage had been set by
Halladay’s amazing no hitter on Wednesday, the anticipation of what could game 2
give us to rival game 1.

Roy Oswalt was not at his best Friday night, far from it in
fact, giving up a homer in the first at bat seemed to set the stage for his
performance, it certainly gave the TBS commentators added reason to praise the
Reds.

It’s bad enough that TBS and Fox don’t give us local
commentators, but when they give you competitors commentators it’s just a slap
in the face to fans. TBS thought it fitting to put Brewers and Braves
commentators in the booth for game 2, and it was clear that they were very
anti-Philadelphia, right from the introductions to the final pitch.

Things seemed to be going the Reds way, thus the commentators
were able to praise them and tell us all the stats that made the Reds the better
team, especially after Utley made a couple of errors, we heard how the Reds and
Padres had the least errors, etc etc.

came the 7th inning, if these commentators had put Chapman on any higher pedestal
he would have needed oxygen for the altitude. They told us how he went through
an opposing team with 8 pitches in an inning, told us how his fast ball was
un-hittable. Told us his idol as he was growing up was Contreras, whom had just
shut down the Reds 1,2,3 in the top of the 7th.

There is no question this kid has some good stuff, but did the
Reds throw him into the fire too early, did the overwhelming atmosphere at
Citizens Bank Park effect him any, were the Reds fielders expecting no one to
hit a ball. Who knows, but this type of thing could effect a young players
mental attitude going into his next appearance.

It all started with the first hitter he saw, Chase Utley and of
course the commentators who had attacked Utley earlier for his 2 errors, were
quick to attack him again, when his actions indicated….

….he was hit by the 101 mph fast ball that was up and
in, the umpire awarded him first base. It wasn’t enough that they were accusing
Utley of cheating, they then called his action ‘Jeter Like’. Way to go, attack
a guy that isn’t even playing in this game.

It didn’t stop there, Utley got to 2nd on a ground ball by Werth,
the fact that TBS had lousy camera angles for plays that normally are clear to
the camera, or they just didn’t want to show the truth in what happened, but
again they accused Utley of being out.

Still not the end of it, first pitch swinging, Rollins hit a
line drive into right field where the Reds players where sleeping, thus driving
in Utley and Werth, the commentators chose to accuse Utley of not touching the
base has he rounded third, it didn’t matter that the replay clearly showed his
foot hit the bag, they still accused him of being a long way from third.

The bottom line the Phillies scored on some fielding errors, but
more importantly the raving of Chapman didn’t seem to affect the Phillies who
hit him like any other pitcher, Ibanez and Sweeney both hit his fastball, which
forced Baker to remove him from the game.

We now have to wait till Sunday to see how the 3rd phase of H2O
performs.

In San Francisco the Giants allowed  one to get way from
them by giving up 3 runs in the 8th and then the game loser in the 11th, the
Braves take 1-1 series tie back to Turner Field where they were almost
unbeatable during the season.

We have ALDS games today, which could make the ALCS picture
clearer, however for now 3 postseason teams hang on to a life line…

Thursday afternoon saw the Tampa Bay Rays, picked apart by a
Texas Rangers pitcher, the Rays went down 6-0 and now must head to Texas down by
2 games, knowing that every game is a life line to the post season, one more
loss and it’s back to booking tee times instead of next round travel
arrangements.

The Minnesota Twins played game 2 of their ALDS series against
the Yankees in their new home. It seems they may be psychologically hampered by
the previous loses in post season to the Yankees, because it doesn’t seem to
matter what they do they can’t get a break. Okay so the umpire made a bad call
on Berkman, but that didn’t lose them this game, it’s their own actions. With
Gardenhire ejected, probably for renaming the home plate umpire, but we’ll just
believe it was for arguing balls and strikes. He shouldn’t feel bad with Maddon
getting ejected in the Rays and Rangers game it’s probably a day for ejections.
The Twins now head to New York with each game a life line to post season, which
means they probably will be with the Rays, booking tee times before Wednesday.

It seems Halladay set the standard for post season pitching,

WTF Award for September goes to….

There has been plenty of drama during the final month of regular season play, the drama even continues into the few rest dayshoward, phillies outside, sex, xxxx, Yankees, sexual harassment, catholic, altar boys, priests, nudes, naked, Phillies, MLB, bobby cox, swiffer, sweep, braves suck, iphone, worldseries, MLB, charlie manuel, president obama, whitehouse, potus, us america, chase utley, slide, hamels, world series, home finale, fans, espn, fox sports, eagles, mcnabb, red skins, nationals, mets, braves, manuel, NL Champions 2010, post season bound, winners, losers, biggest winner, clincher, nationals, washington, oswalt, passwords, free images, free passwords, xxxx passwords, big, big joe, big feet, dick, big dick, bag, base, pad, reds, champagne, dumbasses, McDonalds, Triple CheeseBurger, $150, eat me, j-roll, grand slam, braves, yankess, braves, giants, padres, rays, rangers, twins, foxsports, fox tv, joe buck,*****, fox, WTF, Award, HGH before the 2010 post season gets underway. Today I have decided to issue the final WTF Award of the season for the month of September, there will be too many other things to bitch, complain, praise even be in awe of, during the post season to worry about which moment is the most deserving to get the WTF Award, it would probably be an umpire for a lack of judgment or an over analyzed split second decision.

September like other months gave us a lot of great action, lots of highs and lows, depending on which team you were supporting. One thing I have learned this year is that it is difficult to sit back and reflect on the month and remember every action, re-action or inaction that may deserve a mention or ultimately the award. Initially it was my intention to check out stupid things that players, coaches, umpires or even non-baseball people did that would make almost everyone except that person say WTF.

This award was supposed to entail a ‘light hearted poke’ at dumb things people do, it turned out that it wasn’t just stupid, inconsiderate things that made us go WTF, there are many non-stupid things that can cause that reaction, so I found myself having to include great accomplishments too, of which there seemed way too many to mention them all, in fact as much as we find things to complain about with the teams we follow and the umpires who try to keep order between them, the things these people and entities do for the good is considerably more.

So for one last time this ailing memory will try to capture some things from September that made me go WTF…

There were any number of clubs that could have made you say WTF, from the NL we had the Braves starting the month as a 3 game leader of the NL East and ultimately hanging on to a wild card spot by their finger tips, or San Diego who started as a 4 game leader in the West and ended losing out on any post season play. The cardinals had already become the new NL ‘Chokers’ by the time September started.

The American had less to choose from with all post season teams having established relatively good positioning, it was more the fact that the Yankees went 13-17 and still made it, albeit via the wild card and home field was clinched by a team playing .500 baseball.

First off when does a hooker know she’s a former hooker, how long between being paid for favors does it take to become a former hooker. I googled it, but no luck, I am thinking a Filibuster question for RSBS, so are you up for the challenge Jeff or Allen, “how long after a paid favor does a hooker have to wait before she can claim the status of a former hooker”.

Long story short, innocent or guilty I don’t know, but I understand the Beckham’s have filed suite  against her, the magazine (In Touch) and the parent company of the magazine Bauer in Germany for various slanderous acts. The funny part her attorneys have counter sued because she claims harassment because someone sat outside her hotel and waited for her to exit so they could serve her with the writ. Okay she’s probably not all there and will claim something related to on job illness.

Now believe it or not this did come via an email, and it was a legit email marketing this product, I may have made some improvements to make it more fitting for this use. The point is without the highlight by MLB of this type of product I do not believe this would be finding it’s way into email boxes as if it was a 5 Hour energy boost. I am not sure if she has a high neck sweater to hide her ‘Adams Apple’ because of the side effects or if the ‘batting average’ and ‘strike outs’ has a double meaning. Oh and if you clicked to get a free trial, your ‘IP Address’ has been forwarded to the FBI for investigation (that’s just incase any players are reading this).

Seriously I considered many things and kept coming back to the same group of people that I believe should get this award, so for those that actually stuck around to see who has won, the WTF Award for September 2010 goes too…..

Verisimilitude and Nitwittedness ….

Phillies Outside

This weekend is what makes baseball a great sport, not a good sport, a GREAT
sport. With something on the line for 6 teams going into the final day of the
regular season, it is without a doubt, tense and nervous for some, exciting and
fun for others.

Just when you thought those teams that are comfortable will just sit back and
watch, along comes Charlie Manuel….

howard, phillies outside, sex, xxxx, Yankees, sexual harassment, catholic, altar boys, priests, nudes, naked, Phillies, MLB, bobby cox, swiffer, sweep, braves suck, iphone, worldseries, MLB, charlie manuel, president obama, whitehouse, potus, us america, chase utley, slide, hamels, world series, home finale, fans, espn, fox sports, eagles, mcnabb, red skins, nationals, mets, braves, manuel, NL Champions 2010, post season bound, winners, losers, biggest winner, clincher, nationals, washington, oswalt, passwords, free images, free passwords, xxxx passwords, big, big joe, big feet, dick, big dick, bag, base, pad, reds, champagne, dumbasses, McDonalds, Triple CheeseBurger, $150, eat me, j-roll, grand slam, braves, yankess, braves, giants, padres, rays, rangers, twins

…. to place credibility back into the last weekend of the season. Initially
yesterdays line-up may have appeared a little weak compared to the last time the
Phillies and Braves met, but the game became a fight to the end with the
Phillies rookie Vance Worley giving a commanding performance thru 5 innings and
then the Phillies bullpen blanking the Braves thru the final 4 innings to give
the Phillies a 7-0 shut out on the day the Braves honored Bobby Cox.

Today I believe the Phillies may have jumped past Michael Vick to become the
most hated entity in Atlanta. Some Braves fans feel since the Phillies are in
why they don’t lay down and let the Braves get to the post season, as Charlie
Manuel said, "How is that fair to the Padres and Giants", so suck it
up Atlanta and win because you can, not because the Phillies let you.

The Yankees had a double header, while the Rays tried to find a way to beat
the Royals. The Rays managed to shut the Royals out in a 4-0 win, while the
Yankees took game 1 from the BoSox and looked like they may even sweep the
double header, except it was AJ on the mound and sometimes his cry baby attitude
gets the better of him….

howard, phillies outside, sex, xxxx, Yankees, sexual harassment, catholic, altar boys, priests, nudes, naked, Phillies, MLB, bobby cox, swiffer, sweep, braves suck, iphone, worldseries, MLB, charlie manuel, president obama, whitehouse, potus, us america, chase utley, slide, hamels, world series, home finale, fans, espn, fox sports, eagles, mcnabb, red skins, nationals, mets, braves, manuel, NL Champions 2010, post season bound, winners, losers, biggest winner, clincher, nationals, washington, oswalt, passwords, free images, free passwords, xxxx passwords, big, big joe, big feet, dick, big dick, bag, base, pad, reds, champagne, dumbasses, McDonalds, Triple CheeseBurger, $150, eat me, j-roll, grand slam, braves, yankess, braves, giants, padres, rays, rangers, twins

….AJ’s mind went like this: let me check to make sure the
umpire called that play correctly, cause we all know, if I argue he’ll change
his mind, oh and while I argue let me see if I can trick the BoSox into thinking
it’s a dead ball.
DOH!

It seems the only guy he tricked was Berkman, who just stood
there and looked dumb. Now I would like to know when AJ entered the dug out and
went down the steps, what the hell did AJ say to Girardi, it almost looked as
though AJ was blaming Girardi, and Girardi had this look on his face as if to
say AJ your just fu-cking crazy.

So we have the AL East all tied up again, but today it will be
decided, the winner of the east will also get home field advantage, the Yankees
passed the advantage back to the Rays yesterday, because now the Yankees need a
win and a Rays loss to clinch, so do they stay in Boston to find out or do they
grab everything and rush back to New York to see if they can celebrate.

The NL is a little more screwed up, the scenarios are bountiful,
the bottom line is the right wins and loses and there could be baseball everyday
till the post season starts. So we know the Phillies have home field in the NL,
but who will they play, we don’t know, since we could have 4 teams with the same
record at the end of today.

The introduction of video replay on the possibility of a home
run ball was supposed to make things right, everyone keeps saying we need more
video replays, to many errors by the umpires. What if the video replay shows one
thing yet they still make the wrong call after seeing it….

howard, phillies outside, sex, xxxx, Yankees, sexual harassment, catholic, altar boys, priests, nudes, naked, Phillies, MLB, bobby cox, swiffer, sweep, braves suck, iphone, worldseries, MLB, charlie manuel, president obama, whitehouse, potus, us america, chase utley, slide, hamels, world series, home finale, fans, espn, fox sports, eagles, mcnabb, red skins, nationals, mets, braves, manuel, NL Champions 2010, post season bound, winners, losers, biggest winner, clincher, nationals, washington, oswalt, passwords, free images, free passwords, xxxx passwords, big, big joe, big feet, dick, big dick, bag, base, pad, reds, champagne, dumbasses, McDonalds, Triple CheeseBurger, $150, eat me, j-roll, grand slam, braves, yankess, braves, giants, padres, rays, rangers, twins

….there you have it fan interference, wait they’re playing in
Ohio, okay that means it must be a home run ball then. If you didn’t see this
then it’s worth a look, no matter how many time I replay it I still see the fan
reach over the fence touch the ball with his glove at the same time he hits the
fielders glove. The ball could have been caught by the fielder, if it wasn’t
caught it appears it may have hit the top of the wall and come back into play.
So how then will video replay prevent the umpires from getting in wrong, okay
it’ll involve someone in New York who’ll review it, lot of good that did.

This the last day of regular season is probably one of the most
exciting final days since they went to divisional play. We will at least know
the outcome of the American League battles and who the AL East champions are, as
for the National League, this could be done today or it could take till the end
of Tuesday for us to know.

Where’s the cheese ?

– PhilliesOutside –

Why do we have the latest leaders board?

Is it nice to know if your blog is seen more than someone else’s?

Are we being polite when we say “it doesn’t matter where on the list
we are”?

How do you really feel when your blog is seen less than someone who only
posted 1 post over 18 months ago?

It’s like asking “should Armando Galarraga suffer for the mistake of
some umpire who was not paying attention”? it was obvious to everyone that Jason
Donald
was out, everyone except Jim Joyce the umpire in question. Who
complained the least, the guy with the most to lose, Galarraga. The
problem is Joyce is the one that will be in the history books now and not
Galarraga. Of course Jim Joyce was man enough to admit his mistake
after the fact, but too little too late, if MLB re-adjust’s the numbers to show a
perfect game as many people have been calling for, this will set a precedence
and cause so many other requests for reviews of game outcomes, it would do
nothing except lengthen an already long season. – Okay that sent me just
tad off topic –

I guess what I am saying is, if we’re going to have a list of the top ‘blogillion’
blogs, shouldn’t it be a fair playing field for all. I can glance down the list
of blogs and instantly see those that I visit on a regular basis, I can also see
those that I know have no action and those that just appeared, and of course
there are those that have been lucky enough to be highlighted by the MLBlogosphere
and have miraculously jumped up the ranking considerably. I know Mark Newman
is a very busy man with MLBAM and all, but surely he has people that deal
with this now, or at least some guru/geek that can decipher the good the bad and
the ugly.

At this point there are no more questions just statements, the lists that
represents the Pro Blogs and the Beat Writers are of
course just what they are, it will be tough for a beat writer to compete with
Todd Zolecki
at the ZOZONE
simply because if anyone has been there regularly they know there are a few
people that seem to openly live there lives in the comments section of his blog,
of which is available both through the MLBlogosphere and of course as
regular news items on MLB.com.

The Fans Blog list however, is the one that is not on level
playing ground, there were people asking in the comments of last
months latest leaders list
how to get on the list, which is a tough question
to answer. Some of us spend as much time as we have available writing posts,
commenting on other bloggers posts in the hope that they will return the favor
and also that someone may see your link and visit your site, this works, most
bloggers do return the favor, I say most because not all do, and some don’t do
it all of the time either. -Okay moving slightly off point again –

Lets take a look at some of the blogs that made the list this
month
and last

#24 is a blog that made a couple of posts in the middle of January, that’s
all this year, yet they weren’t on last months list but jumped straight in at

#20 down from #19 last month hasn’t posted anything since mid August 2009,
don’t get me wrong I have nothing against these bloggers, in fact I was a

#30 up from #41 last month, is even featured on the picture for this
month
, openly admits the blog is closed and has moved to a new location
away from mlblogs.

#33 up from #37 last month, okay this one is the funniest of all so far, 1
post in the life of the blog, that post was on April 29th 2009, yes over a year
ago, yet it still is on the list and climbing no less.

#35 down from #2 last month, this is an example of how being highlighted can
help, during March this blog found it’s way on the from of the Blogosphere.

These ones I mention are not the only blogs, they are just the ones I have
chosen to mention, there are a number of blogs with 1 or 2 entries a month or
just this 1 or 2 entries this year that seem to stick around the top twenty or
top thirty, because they have longevity in the Blogosphere. Just
one more I want to mention, last month #30 seems to move up to #27 this month,
the link however is a different link, the name on the list matches the blog it
linked to last month, but not the blog it links to this month, yet the blog it
is linked to this month is more believable as the blog that should possibly be
on the list, confused, so am I, I have no answer, so you’ll have to stay as
confused as me.

It’s fair to say most of, if not all, the top ten blogs have been around for
sometime and have made there way to the top ten because of it, or inspite of it,
it is also fair to say that some blogs stick around without any action for the
reasons. Like all newcomers to anything it takes time to be accepted and to
develop a following of any kind, it also helps when you get the assistance of
controlling organizations, like the MLBlogosphere. So hound them
till you get a front and center promotion like a couple of the top 10 blogs have
had this year already.

Strange as it may be I have no pictures in this post except that which I have
depicted with my words. Take this as you may, for some I am sure they will see
it as a gripe, a whine, for others they may just take solace in the fact that
there blog may be in the top 50, but the list just doesn’t show it.

I know my blog may have dropped 10 places and that maybe my miniscule 4500
hits (excluding my own hits of course) since season start, probably makes it a
stretch that I’m even in the top 50, but with the way the Phillies are
playing I have to whine about something and I am not going to fall into
the same trap as every other Phillies fan and complain about Charlie
or Milt or the players are getting paid to lose, sh-it happens.. or
maybe this is BP’s fault

Now where’s that cheese….

A New Begining….

It’s finally here. Spring is Sprung…

…all the cheap shots at the American League teams are out of my system, until something really horrendous happens, it’s time to focus on the task at hand, supporting the Philadelphia Phillies through thick and thin, taking all the abuse other fans can give, and giving it back in the same good humored rivalry it is all meant.

Accepting that when my team does something, which to the average human, is totally off the wall and far out there, they are doing it for the best interests of the club and not to spite the fans.

Everyone gets a clean slate, even umpire Ed Rapauno, gets a fresh start and can step out without fear of humiliation in Philadelphia, until that first call anyway. It’s a time when Jimmy Rollins and Jose Reyes have the same number of stolen bases, or a time when even Brad Lidge is no longer a…

…loser.

It truly is a special time, the Cubs have the same record as the Cardinals, Milton Bradley has as many RBI’s as Albert Pujols, and any player can claim to equal Ryan Howards home run quantity.

The time has come to start waving those towels, the time has come to grill in the parking lot, the time has come to never be short of beer, the time has come to start screaming LET’S GO….

Phillies Unanswered Question…..

The Phillies and Pirates
go 10 innings and end it as a 3-3 tie. Nobody likes a tie in baseball,
but it’s spring training and lets face it, these guys are just using
each other to try new things out, tone up pitchers arms and to see how
fielders and hitters have adjusted during the off season, plus thrown
in there is the chance for minor league players to show there stuff to the
big league coaches in the hope they may be allowed out of the minors
earlier than scheduled

One of the things currently unanswered from the Phillies camp is:

“What the hell is with Jayson Werth and his beard and hair?”.
werth-1.jpg
Suggestions that have been thrown around are that he’s a keen fisherman and he’s emulating Captain Birds Eye, another is he misses Eric Bruntlett (he must be the only one)
and finally he had a gig as Santa and like it too much, but I have to
be honest these are all hype and misinformation thrown out to disguise
the real reason behind the new look. After some deep down discoveries
about some of his off season activities, my findings are that he is in
negotiations to star in some upcoming commercials for Geico as they try to give teams some extra insurance. “isn’t that what the bench players and bullpen do?” Okay
so its not Geico, even if he does look and act like a caveman, but
seriously, if you see this Jayson… “HAVE A FRICKIN SHAVE AND A HAIR
CUT, you look like a serial killer”

Around Baseball

The New York Yankees backup catcher, Francisco Cervelli, got dinged in the helmet by Jays pitcher, Zech Zinicola. Cervelli picked up his second concussion since November. The Yankees
waited till the 9th inning to retaliate, now come on guys it’s spring
training and pitchers are going to be wild, especially those in later
innings. I guess this definitely sets up some interesting meeting for
the regular season between these two clubs.

The Dodgers fans thought they were in the twilight zone Saturday when Guns ‘n’ Roses started blaring out, everybody stood up ‘standing
ovation or just checking to see if they were dreaming or had been
caught up in one of those ‘back to the future’ type movies
‘, we’ll never really know, but it was real, Eric Gagne was once again on the mound in a Dodgers uniform. I’m sure Broxton won’t lose any sleep worrying about the closers spot.

MLB obviously have there own way of doing things, and like most major corporations believe they know best, although they test for amphetamines, steroids and other PED’s they do NOT test for HGH although it is banned. In the UK recently a rugby player was banned for 2 years for testing positive for HGH, however MLB
not convinced the test is good will research themselves with their own
experts before attempting to implement a test for a substance they have
banned.

MLB
Umpires get some updates, following last years post season, and regular
season too, which for all the great plays and achievements of players
and teams will probably be the year known for ‘BAD UMPIRING’. MLB is seen to be making some changes at least, former supervisors Marty Springstead, Jim McKean and Rich Garcia have not been retained and umpires such as Randy Marsh and Charlie Reliford have been made supervisors. I am not sure this will change much other than allow MLB to to claim they are trying, and I am sure some managers will say, “Yes they are VERY TRYING at times”.
I hear people calling for more video playback, but still that’s still
based on someone’s opinion of what they see, even in the NFL
they still get it wrong after video playback. Umpires don’t have to be
perfect, just get the obviously calls right the rest is all part of the
great game of baseball.

any sarcasm is not meant to offend, unless it does, then consider the possibilities of more during the season.

Yankees Take Game 2…

As much as it pains me to write the fact that the Yankees won 3-1, it happened therefore I must…

Game 2 however did manage to show the shortcomings of the umpires, a bad call going against the Yankees and then one against the Phillies. Does this balance it out, NO, because you never know how many runs, if any, would have been scored had the umpires got it right.

The only other officiating that was less than perfect was the balls and strikes, it seemed that on occasion the strike zone had a tendency to be elastic, as a Phillie fan this obviously appeared to favor the Yankees more than the Phillies.

As this post season has been filled with more errors by umpires than players, I have grown to accept the fact that games are going to be decided by the call of an umpire, good or bad.

This wasn’t the biggest problem for me during game 2, it was the Fox commentators, who seemed to become instant Yankee fans as soon as they scored the first run to tie the game, after this they just became very irritating, especially when making references and then getting players names wrong, but I guess I still have some control, which is why they made the mute button.

Problems aside, I am sure some think the pre-game showing of Jay-Z and Alicia Keys was terrific….

I would love to know what Jeter was thinking here while he watched the performance, just maybe he was thinking the same thing I was…

aliciaK.jpg

the hooker boots were not very becoming and just maybe she has a little too much junk in her trunk

but this still wasn’t what caught my attention during the first 2 games, it was non other than A-ROD…

arod.jpg

during the first 2 series of the Yankees post season he gave everyone hope that his post season inefficiencies where behind him and was A-ROID in their offence, the strength and power…. but since the World Series began he has become nothing more than A-VOID in their offence, an empty space, he has gone 0-8 with 6 strike outs.

So now we have to sit back and wait for game 3 to start tomorrow (Saturday) night at CBP, who will be the winner is on everyone’s mind….

‘it will be, who it will be’

Celebrations, Commiserations…

Celebrations are running
wild in Dodgertown following the sweep they imposed upon the St.
Louis Cardinals
, finishing them off on the road in the Red Birds
home park. This has definitely proven to the rest of the post season
teams that the Dodgers are a team on a mission and are prepared
to face all comers to achieve that goal.

Commiserations go out to all
Cardinal fans, without question I had expected this first round
series to be the one that could have gone the full 5 games. To me the
one, two punch of Carpenter and Wainwright was sure to
prove a tough match to win for any team even if they pitched on the
road. Unfortunately for the Red Birds this was not to be the
case, as with the regular season, more often than not teams traveling to
the west coast have had problems with the first couple of games in a
series.

The Phillies and the Rockies
endured an extra days rest due to weather conditions, this was to be
inevitable after Charlie Manuel selected Pedro Martinez as
the starting pitcher…

…Martinez has experience
more games where the weather has interfered with his starts in 2 months
than most pitchers experience in a season. For the Phillies we hope this
latest problem for Martinez’s start is a blessing in disguise.

With the extra day the
Phillies are sending J.A. Happ to the mound, yes he’s a rookie, but he’s
also the best rookie pitcher this year…

so tonight, weather permitting
the Rockies will host the Phillies, with the series tied at 1-1, this is
a game for the taking by either team to get the series lead.

The Yankees and the Angels
both on the road attempt to clinch sweeps today and move on, however the
Twins and the Red Sox, respectively stand in their way and
hope that they can produce the beginning of an insurmountable task of
winning 3 games in a row.

Today will definitely be a
day packed full of adventure, especially with the recent events that
have spot lighted umpires more than players.

For this fan I just have 2
things to say…

GO PHILLIES and GO EAGLES…

Why do the Umpires Hate the Phillies…

What can anyone say about a game that your team gets demolished 12-3 to complete a sweep, in your own ball park, by a team that just got swept by the Washington Nationals. Just about the same as has been said for the last couple of weeks, offense, defense and pitching, without these you don’t have a ball club. A little unfair to Jamie Moyer, since he put in a good performance, held the Marlins at bay, between a couple of bad located pitches and some bad located fielders, the Marlins edged a small lead and Moyer was replaced by the bullpen. Not so bad 2 runs down the Phillies have come back from worse. So with 2 outs and a runner on 3rd and a runner on 1st, who else but Ryan Howard could come to the Phillies rescue, he’s been the hottest hitter the last couple of days, so now the Phillies have a chance, one big hit and it’s back in the lead, or he could walk then we would have bases loaded for Ibanez, almost as good, you would think….

That’s when the home plate umpire, Ed Rapuano decided the Marlins needed some assistance, so he called Howard out on strikes, wrong call, okay I am biased, so you decide…

The home plate umpire had been having issues with his strike zone depending who was on the mound and who was in the batters box, but that wasn’t it, this was a critical call and he got it wrong (in my opinion), the interesting thing was before Howard came up to the plate, you could hear the audible of Ed saying to Howard “it’s hot out here big fellow” I’m sorry but out of context that sound bite could be very damaging for Ed

You’d think that would be the end of it, ‘in Philadelphia’ I hear you saying, okay so the crowd probably won’t let him forget it, but they didn’t get the chance. With the Marlins now batting and Helms at the plate and Lopez on the mound the sequence of balls and strikes went something like this…

You guessed it the crowd went absolutely crazy, as you can imagine the Phillies players weren’t that impressed either…

Rollins shows his displeasure…

Look closely in the back ground behind Feliz you can see Victorino, who also shows his displeasure…

And then… it can only be described as all hell breaking loose, I may have only been watching baseball for 24-25 years, but I have never seen an outfielder be ejected for raising his arms, and needless to say it upset Victorino…

He came racing in from the outfield, almost threw Bako to the ground to get at the umpire, fortunately for Victorino, Howard is bigger and stronger and man-handled Victorino to the dugout, otherwise he would have surely ended up with a suspension.

That sort of put a damper on things, the Marlins went on to score 6 runs in that inning, and yes you guessed it, the crowd let Ed know of their displeasure at every opportunity. The Phillies managed to scrap back just 2 runs and the Marlins went on to add another 3 runs in the 9th.

So to finish a brief message to Ed Rapuano, stay out of Philadelphia, the fans have long memories, and if the league have any sense they will not assign him a game with the Phillies for sometime or this poster could become the norm around the City of Brotherly Love.

The Phillies go on the road to Chicago, they have a day off Monday, which if they are wise, it will be used to find their missing offense and defense. Then on Tuesday we will find out if the fact that, “Jesus hates the Cubs”  according to the book of Psalms, or was that RSBS, I sometimes find it hard to distinguish between them, they are on occasion both full of useless, but humorous information. The point being we will find out if the umpires take pity on them for the curse cast upon them by this #2 blogger, yes it’s true and fortunately for everyone here, we would never live it down if there wasn’t a she fan with a confession to keep the combined efforts of a lonely Tigers fan and a (insert your own word here) Cardinal fan in their place.
